What happens when you call

We quote it on the phone. House, condo or car, and roughly where. You get the number before we start the van.

We give you a real ETA. Leucadia to Cardiff is a small area, but 101 on a summer Saturday is not quick, and we'd rather say so than promise fifteen minutes.

We ask for ID at the door. Or a piece of mail, a lease, or the property manager on the phone. More on why below.

Non-destructive entry first. Picking, bypass or a decoder before any drilling. Drilling is rare, only with your okay, and we replace what we drill.
House, condo, and rental lockouts
Deadbolts, knob locks and sliders, on cottages and on the newer houses east of the 5. Beach-condo complexes near Moonlight with a gate fob you left inside: we can usually get you through the pedestrian gate as well as your door, with the manager's blessing where there is one.
Keypad deadbolt with a dead battery? There's often a 9-volt trick for that, and we'll talk you through it on the phone first if it saves you the visit.
Salt-seized deadbolts west of 101 are their own thing: the right key won't turn, and it isn't your key's fault. We free the lock, and we'll tell you honestly whether that cylinder has a future.
If you're a guest locked out of a vacation rental late at night, call the number on your booking first. If the owner or the manager sends us, we come.
Car lockouts
Keys locked in the car at Moonlight, Swami's or the Cardiff State Beach lot after a surf is the classic Encinitas call, usually with the key in the wetsuit pocket you left in the trunk. Most makes and years. We use wedges, long-reach tools and decoders, not a coat hanger, and we don't scratch the paint.
If the key is lost rather than locked in, that's a different job. Ask, and we'll tell you honestly whether we can cut and program a new one on the spot or who can.
Why we ask for ID
California licenses locksmiths partly so that people can trust who's opening their doors. We won't open a door for someone who can't show they belong there. ID with the address, a utility bill, a lease, a listing agent's confirmation or the property manager on the phone all work. If you've just moved in and your license still says Temecula, that's fine; we'll sort it. It takes a minute, and it's the same reason you'd want us to turn away a stranger at your door.
After hours
Daytime hours are Mon–Sat 8am–8pm. After 8pm, an after-hours rate of $75 applies on top of the daytime lockout price, and we tell you that on the phone before we come. We don't claim to be awake around the clock. We say when we'll answer, and we answer then.
Lost the keys, not just locked out?
If the key is gone rather than sitting on the kitchen counter, getting the door open isn't the end of the job. Somebody has a key to your house. We can rekey the door while we're there, so the lost key stops working tonight. How a rekey works, and what it includes.
Where we come from
We're based in Encinitas and work the stretch between Batiquitos Lagoon and San Elijo Lagoon, from the coast to Olivenhain. Honest ETAs, by village:
- Old Encinitas and Leucadia: usually the quickest.
- Cardiff: down 101 or over Birmingham, quick most of the year and slow on a summer beach afternoon. Cardiff callouts welcome.
- New Encinitas and Encinitas Ranch: across the 5 on Encinitas or Leucadia Boulevard.
- Olivenhain: a longer drive out Rancho Santa Fe Road, and we'll say so.
